Harassment at workplace- Give up??? NO Its time to Give It Back!!!

Description

Workplace sexual harassment is still a serious, ubiquitous, and troublingly unsolved issue. Sexual harassment remains in virtually every area of the economy, from male-dominated to female-dominated industries and workplaces, and from low-wage and precarious occupations to high-wage professions, despite the fact that women now make up nearly half of the workforce.

Discerning sexual harassment

Sexual harassment does not occur as a result of a passing event or desire. Power imbalances are at the root of it in all areas. In every sector of the economy, men possess significantly more influence than women.

Sexual harassment – Baneful and Beyond

No industry is immune to sexual harassment, nor is it unaffected by its consequences. Sexual harassment has a negative impact on the victims' lives, health, prospects, financial independence, and possibilities, and it costs businesses not only legal expenditures but also lost productivity, morale, effectiveness, and talent. Tolerating or failing to respond appropriately to sexual harassment can obstruct women's and other targets' economic stability, access to opportunity, and development, perpetuating the existing condition and power imbalances that fuel sexual harassment.

Who are the culprits?

We discovered that sexual harassment is perpetrated by more than simply managers, supervisors, and individuals in positions of power in practically every industry. Harassment can be perpetrated by coworkers, as some hostile work environment allegations allege. Third-party sexual harassment is also widespread. That is true for low-wage fast-food employees who may be harassed by customers, as well as nurses and other healthcare professionals who may be harassed by patients to name a few.

Our society. Its myths, narratives, norms providingfertile ground for sexual harassment to thrive.

The view that men don't belong in caregiving and that women and those who don't comply to traditional norms don't belong and can't compete in the workplace. These harmful beliefs not only fuel widespread sexual harassment, but they also produce abusive and poisonous societies that silence, marginalize, and waste the talents and potential of countless people.

Why is harassment getting normalized?

Low-wage workers may suffer sexual harassment because they rely on their jobs to make ends meet and have few other options. As a result, targets—and bystanders—may occasionally disregard sexual harassment or decline to register a complaint out of fear of losing a good-paying job with the prospect of a middle-class position.

Higher-wage workers may also stay in toxic, sexually harassing situations because they've invested so much knowledge, time, and effort into their professions, networks, or reputations that the fear of being labeled a pariah or shunned can keep victims silent. All of this contributes to the normalization of sexual harassment in the workplace.

The crawling system

Victims of sexual harassment must report charges of harassment through a rigid chain of command, which is often set up to fail. This essentially silences or freezes victims' concerns. Policies and reporting systems, particularly in low-wage contexts, are frequently ambiguous. Many workers do not have access to reporting because of their job (agricultural labor) or legal status (undocumented).
